A New Orleans Style Snowball isnβt just a treat π§itβs a cultural icon. Unlike traditional snow cones, snowballs are made with ultra-fine, fluffy ice that absorbs syrup like a sponge, delivering bold, flavorful bites from the first scoop to the last.
Topped with house-made syrups, sweetened condensed milk, or even stuffed with ice cream, snowballs are a Southern summer staple thatβs all about indulgence, fun, and flavor.
At Cajun Queen Snowballs, we bring the authentic taste of New Orleans to Florida, serving up one fluffy Snowball at a time!
The snowball has deep roots in Louisiana history, tracing back to the early 1900s. During hot New Orleans summers, blocks of ice were shaved by hand and doused in simple homemade syrupsβoften fruit-flavored or creamy vanilla.
By the 1930s, Ernest Hansen invented the first electric ice-shaving machine in New Orleans, revolutionizing the snowball experience.
Around the same time, George Ortolano also developed a popular version of the machine, and local shops began popping up throughout the city.
Over the years, generations of families have passed down recipes and traditions, keeping the snowball a beloved part of Southern culture.
